Kareri Lake Trek

This trip takes you to Delhi’s old circuit to the colonial buildings and gives you an opportunity to travel with Indian railways before reaching Dharamsala. Dharamsala is a city in Kangra Valley, McLeodganj in Dharamsala also known as little Lhasa. Then start the trek from Satovari village towards Kareri Lake and from Kareri Lake hike towards Minkiani pass. Return back to Dharamsala and fly back to Delhi.

Tour Details

Trip starts in Delhi by exploring the famous Red Fort, Jama Masjid and streets of Chandni Chowk, Raj Ghat (Gandhi Memorial), India Gate and driving through colonial buildings. Then board the train to Pathankot and enjoy travelling with Indian railways. From Pathankot drive towards Dharamsala which is famous for Dalai Lama’s residence in McLeodganj and visit Dalai Lama’s temple (Tsuglagkhang Complex).

From Dharamsala drive to Satovari village the starting point of the trek and from here starts trekking towards Kareri village. En-route you will cross local villages and get the chance to experience insights of culture and livelihood of local villagers. From kareri village the trail is steep ascend towards Kareri Lake (2934m) crossing through several bridges, boulders and walking beside Kareri river.

Kareri Lake (2934M) is a mountain lake and the base camp for Minkiani Pass (4250M) and Baleni Pass (3710M). One can visit the temple located on a hilltop above the lake, next day trek to Minkiani Pass (4250M) which is a steep ascend through boulders and after spending some time at the pass decend down to Kareri Lake.

Descend down from Kareri Lake to the road head and drive towards McLeodganj, next morning fly back to Delhi.

  • DAY 01 - Delhi

    Arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel, rest of the day is free to relax

    Arrive Delhi, at airport our KVT’s representative will greet and welcome you. Then board the vehicle and transfer to hotel for check-in, rest of the day is free for you to relax at the hotel or can explore the surrounding areas by your own.

  • DAY 02 - Delhi

    Delhi sightseeing and evening catch overnight train to Pathankot

    Morning after finishing breakfast we proceed for the sightseeing tour of Delhi, visiting Red Fort built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648 then we head to Jama Masjid which is one of the largest mosques in India later stroll around the famous Chandni Chowk market and then head to Gandhi Memorial (Raj Ghat), it is the sacred site where Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. Later visit India gate and colonial buildings. In the evening we will be transferred to railway station to catch the overnight train to Pathankot.

  • DAY 03 - Mc Leodganj

    Arrive Pathankot, drive to McLeodganj, later sightseeing of Dharamsala

    Arrive Pathankot railway station and drive towards McLeodganj (Dharamsala) (Distance: 90km) and transfer to hotel for check-in, get freshen up and later visit Dalai Lama Temple in afternoon. Later visit Tibetan cultural centre after that walk around the market and explore the surroundings. In the evening return back to hotel.

  • DAY 04 - Kareri Village

    Drive to Satovari village then trek to Kareri village (Trek begins)

    Today after breakfast we will drive to Satovari village it is half an hour drive. Reach Satovari village, the starting point of our trek from here we will trek towards Kareri village, enroute we cross Ghera village and on the way we will be crossing small streams over an improvised hanging bridge and later the trail is steep ascending through forest and passing through several more small villages. Reach Kareri village and relax in the tents. (1800m | 5-6hrs trek | trek begins)

  • DAY 05 - Reyoti

    Trek from Kareri village to Reyoti village

    Morning we continue our trek towards Reyoti village, today the trail is steep ascent and have to cross streams over an hanging bridge several times to reach our next camping site at Reyoti village.(2800m | 4-5hrs trek)

  • DAY 06 - Kareri Lake

    Trek from Reyoti village to Kareri Lake

    This morning we will finish our breakfast and start trekking to Kareri Lake which is a mountain lake and a base camp for Minkiani Pass (4250m) and Baleni Pass (3710m). There is a temple situated beside the lake and it is considered sacred among the nearest villagers. Reach Kareri Lake and we will camp beside the lake for the night. (2934m | 4hrs trek)

  • DAY 07 - Kareri Lake

    Trek from Kareri Lake to Minkiani Pass (4250m) and back to Kareri Lake

    Today we trek to Minkiani Pass (4250m) from here one can have a beautiful view of the snow-peaked mountains and the valley. The trail is steep ascent through boulders, moraine and snow; after spending some time at Minkiani Pass we descent to Kareri Lake and overnight at Kareri Lake. (2934m | 4hrs trek)

  • DAY 08 - Kareri Village

    Trek downhill to Kareri village from Kareri Lake

    In the morning after finishing breakfast we leave Kareri Lake and descent towards Kareri village. It will be an easy trail as the trail goes down, reach village and rest in the tents. (1800m | 6hrs trek)

  • DAY 09 - Dharamsala

    Descend to the nearest road head Satovari (Trek ends) and drive to McLeodganj (Dharamsala)

    In the morning we begin our trek and the trail goes downhill from the village; we reach the nearest road head Satovari, here our trek ends. Later we board the vehicle and drive to McLeodganj then check-in to the hotel. (4-5 hrs. trek | trek ends)

  • DAY 10 - Delhi

    Fly to Delhi from Dharamsala airport, arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel

    Today have breakfast and transfer to Dharamsala airport to board the flight to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi transfer to hotel for check-in, rest of the day is free for you to relax at the hotel or can explore the surroundings by your own.

  • DAY 11 - Delhi

    Departure transfer to Indira Gandhi International airport, Delhi

    Today departure transfer to the Indira Gandhi International Airport to board the flight for back home.
